It was a topsy-turvy week for me gang. I was all over the place watching the usual go-tos Saul, Barry, and Top Chef along with a heaping portion of playoff basketball which kept me pretty busy. All on top of a travel weekend so this’ll be a lighter mailbag than usual, and with that, onto the party.

Reading/Watching/Playing May 2nd

  • Ambulance was a kinetic fever dream of a movie. I started to write up thoughts for a full article on this but lost steam midway through so here are a few bullet points:
  • Michael Bay has drones now
  • I don’t think there are more than five seconds at any given time between frame cut
  • None of this movie makes sense
  • Jake Gyllenhall is having the time of his life
  • I walked out in a stupor after this flick
  • Casually name-dropping The Rock (movie, not actor!)
  • It’s a throwback to the 90’s action movies I was raised on, just cranked up to 11
  • I laughed, I rolled my eyes, my mouth was slackjawed at multiple parts and by the end I was physically exhausted. I stumbled onto 34th street in a stupor. I don’t think it’s half as funny as it wants to (and needs to) be, it definitely could’ve used a Phoebe Waller Bridge punch-up, or even a Phoebe Waller Bridger starring role, but it was fun and I’m glad I saw it.
  • End of Ambulance Rant
  • Better Call Saul was a riveting masterpiece this week that, even though…
